Immigration Information

What Do I Need To Know?

Immigration regulations for J-1 Exchange Visitors and students as well as F-1 students is quite extensive.  These are best communicated to you through the New International Student Orientation sessions, which take place at the beginning of fall and spring semesters.  Colorado School of Mines has two members on its staff who are responsible for issuing visa documents (Form I-20 and Form DS-2019) as well as monitoring the two programs.  The Director of International Student and Scholar Services, Brandon Samter is the Primary Designated School Official (F-1) and the Responsible Officer (J-1).  The Assistant Director of IS&SS, Alyda Morosco is the Designated School Official (F-1) and the Alternate Responsible Officer (J-1).

Why Orientation?

Imagine a group of 50-150 individual students who need the same information about the same subjects.  Imagine two staff members trying to give the information to all the students one by one, or in small groups--this would take an eternity!  We provide up-to-date information during orientations and throughout your stay. We are your resource for all questions and issues relating to your F-1, F-2, J-1 or J-2 visas. Orientations are pre-planned and scheduled in advance. They are a necessity! We are required by law to provide students information concerning their visas--what to know and what to understand.
